ONLY IN AMERICA II...can we promote by way of our political, legal system...I-G-N-O-R-A-N-T (473 hits)

Only in America do almost a whole society that profess to be a moral,legal country to be looked up to because of our dedication to Christian , Family values as well as a Democracy while at the same time refusing to accept:reality,truth, across the board "equality" , freedom of the press(speech). Most of this is accomplished because we have been convinced that we do not see the out side world with the eyes of our own culture.("yo what tha")

I have used the proceeding paragraph to help introduce the main argument that the Republican party is already saying as the means to disquailfy our president's first pick for the Supreme Court.Mr. Obama has chosen a female of the Hispanic diaspora by way of one of the United State's 'colony'.The racist code word the Republicans will be using is "Affirmative Action" to prove that she is S-T-U-P-I-D!!!!!I do see that some have been brave enough to call her "stupid" already!!!!!

This woman was the top of her graduating class at the ivy ledge and each of her Judgeships promotion's lead supporters has been our pass four Presidents(as clinton and bush ran twice) Now our president has thrown in her support for this judge as rully qualified and rating another promotion...Please, please, please do your own research on JudgeSonia Sotomajor, because after all the person in Congress is only there by your say so. It is called a v-o-t-e....if not then you will be giving aide and comfort to that business as usual, I keep hearing you say you want to end,LOL...

Now here is my second offer of proof of this argument about Only in America is how we have been so educated to just go emotional over what is said over our public air waves until we (most of us) can not see the tie in of this to what we talk about on this site day in and day out. And, "I" believe that this is more of a threat to those not classified as being in the White race than any thing those we VOTE for can ever do to us as a people called Black/ non White...

I will use three post on this site and challenge you to read them if you have not and if you have then please go reread them as they illustrate all that I have said on this post!!!! They are :

1. "President cuts Hbcu Funding (and my "Yes WE Can Chant is slowly Becoming "No You Didn't". This post helped us get together and exchange information with each other...and, this is abeautiful thing....(smile)

2. J"ust Thinking...do we have a bull's eye on our heads? "post...helps us question our selves as individuals, but more important it shows us as the local Black leaders we all are...like Mr.& Mrs. Obama(smile)

3."Government Targeting Blacks as Terrorist". This post says when we add skin color(culturez) to this equation like this, our work is still ahead of us even with a President in the White House, because he is there fighting after 400 years to get equal protection under the Laws of this land or the American Constitutionenforced.(smile)

Our leader was kicked out of the christian church and the civil rights movement---
I pray that Our Presidents trip on June 3rd will be the nail that completes the journey of America to Change We Can Believe in.

Hello Irma,
The spark of your current outspoken commentary is indeed confirmation of what you stated at the beginning , "... we do not see the outside world with the eyes of our own culture."

I have been watching with near disbelief the recent outbursts regarding Sonia Sotomayor. The segment of the majority culture represented by so-called conservative talking heads are sucking us into another trap. I hope we can avoid it this time. Here is what I mean.

1. In Plessy vs. Ferguson, we protested poor treatment in Interstate travel, and we got the "separate but equal doctrine (through the eyes of the maintstream culture, who could not see the injustice we felt.) We claimed victory, but what we got in return was an onslaught of "Jim Crow" laws that did more to separate us and widen gaps than to create any form of separate equality.

2. We fought for Brown vs. Board of Education, and won a battle to tear down the walls of separation. However, we didn't take all the value of our Black culture into the white classrooms that many sent their children. So, what has evolved is defacto urban inferior education systems that are separate and worse than those we sought to escape at the outset. So, now we are asking if Integration hurt us. No, Integration didn't hurt. We forgot where we came from and didn't take it with us to the Integration Table. We traded our cultural achievements for an inferior place at the table.

3. Now the "reverse racism" bigots are raising their ugly arguments. They are trying to use MLK's "content of their character" phrase to suggest that any reference to race or ethnic advocacy is "racist." If we fall into this trap, we will be trapped by what our children accuse some of their peers -- "wanting to be white." There is no such thing as colorblind equality. What they mean by that is that we must try our very best to "be white" and deny our heritage. We cannot allow them to bait us into this trap.

Only in America can we utilize the existing communications channels to restore our thought leadership. We must set the agenda forour progress again, and stop falling into their traps that distract us from our goals.

Perhaps our President is more clever than we give him credit for. After all, he is a leader who summons the best in us. But WE have to show up with our best when he opens doors.

We can prevail in the HBCU situation if we demand the support, as opposed to complaining that they took away a gift from Bush II.

We can raise our voices with "confirmation of the intellectual and judicial qualifications" of Judge Sotomayor, and not fall into the trap of defensively responding to the racists who are distracting us from our own agenda. The Hispanics can do a good job of defending themselves. And President Obama can defend his choice on his terms.

Remember, his appeal to us is YES WE CAN!

We have to focus on doing our part.

Brother Roger, you made a strong point when you stated......" We must set the agenda for our progress again and stop falling into their traps that distract us from our goals !"
This has been one of our downfalls as a race of people, we become easily distracted and therfore, we have the tendancy to lose valuable focus.
This has always been known by our oppressor.
The moment that we live in presently, has already been predestined, and you would think that enough of us know this by now and start to take serious action. Meaning, each one, must teach one ! We must continue the fight !
That being said, yes, our president has been opening doors, doors we need to take full and complete advantage of.
Untill we can finally say......., YES WE DID !!!!!!!

Thank you Dr. Ross and Dr.Hines...I am so glad to recieve in put from our public school professors.

The need for us as a people of the minority races (as Judge Sonia Sotomajor)are at critical mass....This proud female Puerto Rican being called a "Stupid Racist" who should not be on our Supreme Court only because she as all of us see the world though the experiences of our Ethnic culture and our surrounding enviornment has gone too far / has not gone far enough in an honest education / moral teachings of mankind.

and, mind you this out cry is coming from the mentality of the need to invade a 'sovereign' country then find out how to find proofs that this invation of this nation is justified. And, if we can not find these needed proofs we will torture our fellow human beings to get it and if this is not possible then we over ride our own legal system altogetheer about : innocent until proven in a court of law that you are guilty by over riding yet another Civil Right's law that says we all are due a day in court!!!!!!!A SPEEDY COURT DATE.....

WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...YES WE CAN...............(smile)

Thank you Clark and Mozell, until I am proven wrong in "MY" belief that I am the oldest (PROUD) Black deep south born female on this site, I plan to make this "Only In America" a series. A series to allow our youth a first hand look /knowledge that we fight what they have come to know as the 60s Civil Rights Movement is exactly the same movement that we do ever time we read or write a post on this site.

The only difference in the 60s movement and this one in 09' is the streets have been replaced by the net in getting our message of our demands for equality out...There is nothing that makes the need for these kinds of Black social networks that says any thing different about what I just said...

We just do not get it yet...and will never get it on CNN's BIA(smile)...but then this is the reason for this "Only In America" series isn't it(smile)

Thank you brother Roger for your support both here on ONLY IN AMERICA II as you did on OIA III in this joint effort to shed some light on Black In America from the view of the Black community as it can only be done by word of mouth, so to speak from one generation to the next.

How you said on III that the Gay and Lesbian fight is in no way our fight so us to please do not take our eyes of our own agenda of EQUALITY against Jim Crow laws / "We have to focus on doing our part".Our part is to continue to fignt for full and equal justice in America and never forget that this is something we as a proud race of people have been doing since the first African male, female slave sat feet in this country...This has always been our agenda and it still must be as long as even one of us believe that our president who took the skin color of his mother and not his father has made one difference in those like them representing the Republican Right Wing...

Those ropes are still hanging in public school yards, are today called a joke, and the burning of crosses on our lawns are seen now as FREE SPEECH...

I do chant(pray) that this time around we do not accept only African-American TOKENS be they Democrats or Republicansbe they local state or federal political offices as we still do nt have a Liberal Senator, or Supreme Court judge or a prime time TV series with even a TOKEN leading star that is not playing for laughs or with a weapon in his /her hands.

YES WE CAN do better than this..."no", we can and we must do much, much better than this and we must start doing this,Y-E-S-T-E-R-D-A-Y(smile)
