"LETS MOVE ON"...What does this mean to you on a personal level... (536 hits)

What exacly does these words mean to you?!?I ask because, this phrase seem to be the by word of the present, as related to the arrest of Dr. Gates by officer Crowly. It appears as if now that Dr.Gates, this police sgt. and our president will, 'be meeting at the Whitehouse for beer' therefore racism has once again been put to rest in America, because we now have a Black president!!!!!.(Reminds me of when the NAACP buried the N word as demanded by Jim Crow from those over on FOX leading the charge?????!!??LOL)

I also ask your take on does it seem that the arrest of Dr. Gates for being Black in his own home, is maybe a brand new form of how we have "moved on " from "DRIVING WHILE BLACK"and on into our homes if we dare vinture moving into those White Upper, Upper -class neighborhoods? Is this arrest of Dr. Gates "MOVING ON " from AFRICAN-Americans being arrested for moving into middle-class all White neighborhoods in the 20th century as it is still against the laws and the teachings of Jim Crow in the 21st century???!!

Lets Move on can have many different meanings. It all depends on how you look at things. As for the use of this phrase in dealing with Dr.Gates and the police officer and the President, I hope it means to move on to open discussion on race. This is something Americas have avoided since the end of slavery.
As for moving into upper class neighborhoods that a majority of whites live in is not new. When Blacks had the income to leave the hood they moved to white areas because this was the thing to do. The kicker is that now whites are now moving into all Black areas because of the affordable housing and blacks being pushed out.

Let's move on? Who is saying let's move on, because it can't be minorities.

When we were kids and a fight broke out on the schoolyard usually it was a temporary thing, you shook hands and moved on. But there was always that one kid always looking for trouble. Then somebody had to kick his ass real good, then you moved on.

Now this is an analogy, I don't mean it literally, but if the president didn't want to take up the fight he didn't have to, but to get involved only to turn politician? We're gonna have a beer over it and forget about it, and he's not the injured party? How could he suggest that, when he knows this happens every day, all over the country.

Sister Irma, I didn't mean to malign the president, but to speak to one particular incident. However your words are instructive and I take them to heart. My main political views have to do with sound money, please don't put me in the conservative republican camp, I am no more one of them than a democrat. The reason is this: every child in this country is born into something like $186,000 of debt (I need to check the exact figure, this is just off the top of my head). Republicans and Democrats alike are leading us down this road. I believe in private initiative not government and that government should have a more limited role. I'm a Ron Paul supporter but it has nothing to do with party affiliation. I don't expect to be popular for this but am just giving it for background.

If I understand your views you are saying it is not the individual battle but the war that must be won?

Some more background: I did not just "do a little blow", as the president. I destroyed myself with crack and saw the destruction of many others, including one of the dealers (black) who was shot to death trying to evade the cops. Many others (black) almost all I knew, who had been to jail, and went back after I knew them. This is a HUGE problem, one of the biggest facing blacks. So blacks and the judicial system, and the economic plight of blacks in these neighborhoods that lead to drugs, prostitution, etc. is a big concern of mine and racial profiling is a big part of that as well.

Say what you want, President Obama spoke the truth about the Gates situation and Obama shouldn't feel the need to apologize to anyone for anything he said. When it all boils down to it, I believe Gates was arrested for "disrespecting" the cop. Cops are egotistical and often times bullies. There is some merit in America that black men are wrongfully targeted and accused of wrong doing as well as being mistreated by the police. Black men are vilified in the media. Watch a news show (doesn't matter if it's local or not) and see for yourself. Overwhelmingly when a Black or Latino man appears on the news its for a crime and their face is exposed all over the news. But let a white person get accused of a similar crime and if their face is not hidden its looking like a jigsaw puzzle (LOL). Look at prison populations in this country and compare it to the regular population. Black and Latino men are in the minority as compared to white men in the country but Blacks and Latinos are in the majority of the prison population. Why? Do they commit more crimes than Whites? The answer is no. True be told, the criminal justice system is often bias.... police included. I live on a block with Black and Latino people and have seen it happen in my neighborhood more than once. In short, had the officer left the house when he realized that no crime was committed, Gates would never have been arrested.

..."We're gonna have a beer over it and forget about it, and he's not the injured party? How could he suggest that, when he knows this happens every day, all over the country"...

Brother Steve it was the cop who suggested that the President invite him to the "Whitehouse" for a beer. I don't agree with the beer, but I think that President Obama should invite the Mr. Gates and the cop so that we can all find out why he really arrested him and what better person to do that than President Obama who understands both White and Black people.

Jen, I think we'd all like to know the answer to that question. But honestly, I wish we could just read it in the paper, television is too immediate.

Now if you did not get what I was trying to say, try this...The people on the front line knew that it was a lie about her(Rosa Parks) being tired, and we knew that they would be more helpful if we "kissed A___"History would tell the truth some day.

but, since the White man as usual violated the deal Our people are right back stepping backwardsstill listening to them. Because too many of us still have no idea our history and how it works...Our president Knows first hand how much the White man will be willing to help us, hell he is the president and these people are still trying to bring him down, which the only way they can do this is with our help...Any proud African-America would know exactly where we stand in America and would never try to believe there is no racism and start believing Obama is going to turn into another M.J. or Koby Bryant by believing he has "arrived" in the WHITE WORLD...please stop insulting your race at least those who like Obama refuse to give up our ties to MOTHER AFRICA(smile)

Jen, according to the right-wing, Republicans, it is time to move on from this arrest story, because anyone knows the police man was in the right. They are claiming look at even the president says he has a good work record...But, Jen, what they leave out is THERE IS NO CASE SINCE THE D. A. SAID IS WAS A STUPID CHARGE...Mr. Obama was not playing sides with anyone in this '''case" because there was no case!!!!!

When in reality what they are trying to say to the police department, you now do not have to do that investigation into this matter as you promised to do ...

HAS ANYONE TAKEN THE TIME TO LOOK UP THE LAWS ABOUT (this kind of arrest in that state..how many laws did you find that policeman broke before, during and after that arrest??!!/

president Barack H. Obama is an attorney........a man who use to teach law before becoming a state senator who then got some profiling laws passed...and now he is going to screw up??????..PLEASE, give our self a break...

Steve, have you ever though that there are things that we do in our Black community that if one is not say, being a Black (active) fighter in the quest for equality that one can get just as lost to what we are doing as the White race is in its efforts to stop us in our tracks?!? for example,

If they knew that Black people had had that sit down of Rosa Park's was a planned move we would have gotten any place. but, still to this day the majority of people still refuse to not believe the White version of that , "she was too tired from working all day to give up her seat"...much like this bull the Republicans put out about our president...

What would the White man look like if they told the truth about Rosa Parks, had n ever ever and had no intentions of ever giving up he seat to a White woman, child or male and never would!!! This is why she had been banned from riding any of that bus company's buses, period, no and buts or...

i AM QUITE SURE THE AVERAGE PERSON WOULD TELL ME i MUST BE OUT OF MY MIND!!!!!!! When I make statements like this! Why, well because the truth of Rosa Parks is not in the White man's history about African-American history and we are still fighting hard as we can to get our history in more than 4 year colleges where one gets to learn things like this...

AND i PROMISE YOU WHEN YOU GET TO LEARN OUR ACTUAL ROLE IN AMERICA THEN YOU WILL NEVER HAVE REASON TO DOUBT OUR PRESIDENT. I have suffered dearly at the hands of the White race, but never, ever as bad and for as long as our president. You see unlike our president my grand mother loved me unconditionally. She did not love me when she had to force her self to over look the color of my skin to be able to love me.

It is so funny how so many people over look our president in just how proud he is of the color of his skin and he was able to be able to got to Rev. J. Wright rather than back to the drug dealer(my people this is why the Whate man is so angry with rev. Wright because this man has brought into being the two most powerful black people in America today...Barack and Oprah

...and guess what W-E in our quest to go along with the White man we over looked when this man said he could no more deny rev. Wright than he could the Black community...but we were so busy listening to the White man, as usual, until we never heard a word our president was saaying to us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

aND WE HAVE THE NERVE TO START SAYING HE IS FORSAKING US...HOW DARE US DO THIS TO THIS MAN...

I KNOW, IT IS BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT THE WHITE PEOPLE ARE SAYING...!!!!!

Steve, this is why I believe that "education is our SAVIOR". For example, I supported and I still support Ron Paul 125%. I do so because he is not just a reformed 'racist' who is honest enough to admit it and give the reasons why he is so glad that he no longer have to out racist the next racist if you want to get elected; but he said this, "America can no longer AFFORD to be an empire, because an empire falls when it can no longer afford to support it self"!This has been proven over and over in history and jet we still ingore this.

Brother Steve, we are the government and our president needs every one of us to help him take our government back from the big business lobby and this is why I will not go against him in any way because this is self distructive!!!!This is what Dr. Ron Paul wants us to do also...

It takes a lot to be open, honest and up right when running for a political offece. It is even harder to remain in said office if one is open, honest and forth right in office.(smile)

I have said this to say it took a lot for you to say what you just said, and it is something that needs to be said to each and all in and out of our Black community, because it is proof that ..YES WE CAN...I thank you for this and you keep educating all of us on this matter that you have faced and have been able to over come, because WE "All" need it.

My everlasting love and respect to you brother Steve and ever Steve "like" on this planet(smile)

Brother Clark, brother Clark, thank you, thank you, thank you...because, ONLY IN AMERICA, can even our own Black community be so resistant in N-O-T allowing the Republican right-wing to be able to believe that our president being an attorney him self would still be able to keep his liscense or at least be called before the board of ethics of attorneys(for being IGNORANT) and violating one of their most important own sayings...WHAT YOU SAY CAN BE USED AGAINST YOU...yet the right-wing has us demanding that he as an attorney has no knowledge of this...WAKE UP...(SMILE)

My daughter Siebra, what you said is why i chant(pray) and with all of my being as a proud Black female that Dr. Gates file a law suit against that police department. They are responsible for this kinds of actions. Sue the police department in general and the police commisioner in spiceific, becuse he was a part of the press conference that publically(national and internationally) condoned this illegal / moral behavior!!!!!!!(smile)

It is up to US as citizens of America to force this behavior to be stopped , period!!! iF IT TAKES WHAT WE WERE FORCED TO DO TO GET EQUAL JUSTICE FOR RODNEY KNIG...then so be it...

Now if that policeman had not broken so many laws to be able to arrest Dr. gates, then may be this would not be so urgent, but this arresting some one just for demanding his legal and moral and civil right-and in his own home, must be stopped, like, YESTERDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"NOW JUSTUCE, NO PEACE"!!!!!!!!

I will repeat, Kissing A----(compromise)can be a good thing...just please try to not even for one minute forget that our president did not get where he is without being able to be able to take in all sides of an issue in order not to end up on the the worst for his efforts...This man is a win and what he does is a win, win in all things or have you not noticed this?!?And, the only his always being a winner is tha we do not stand behind him as he has asked ALL Americans to do if they want, need to take their government back out of the hands of big business..

the best way to do this is to let it be known to all of your politicians in Washington, D. C. who will be going right back to d.C. after their vaction, to enjoy their TAX paid, regular pay check and medical full benefits and more of that lobby money they are only taking a break from for a few weeks!!!!If we can not do this then why are we expecting Mr. Obama to do what we are not willing to do for our own selves!!!!!!!!!???????!

Let us not forget that we all have had to kiss a__ at some time or another for the good of the/ a better long term benefit. Our president nor did dr. Gates got where the both of them are without hard work, and not as a result of throwing adult tantrams / pointing blame away from them!O.K?(smile)

What is going on her has been going on for 400 years in the African-American's quest for EQUALITY and this is why we as a race of people do what is best for our children and our grandchildren and not for favors of ratings nor big buiness nor for a political position...never have, never will or at least those like our president...

...this is what I just got to see on HARDBALL on msnbc...Chris Matthews after showing the sound bite with sgt. Crowley takling about how Dr. Gates talked about his mother; Mathews was laughing so hard he almost could not be able to say how this must be how a White person expect a Black to be using street language would say...this was priceless as Eugene Robinson follower up as he was craking up over this sound bite also,

* please note that Eugene Robinson is a Black male Plutzer(misspelled) writer for the Washington Post and a regular political anylast on msnbc.

Robinson said Dr. Gates hangs around with Kings and Queens therefore I can not imgan him using this kind of language at all...then he went on to say, saying a professor with the caliber of a Dr. gates as being arregant is like saying a pro basketball player is tall!!!!

I must 111% agree with all of the above(smile)

Clark, "FREEDOM of SPEECH"?!?LOL And, Clark, because of this 'beer summit' that will be coming up next Thursday at the Whitehouse, will this be able to allow that press conference and the police department's saying that there would be a full investigation moot?!?

And, if not please help me with the why nots my brother...

I will be the first one to say that this arrest has done a lot as it has got a much needed open discussion on race relations and race. but, these discussions a subjective, but enforcement of the laws of the land must remain objective and not just casted asside at the behest of politics as usual...
