FOOD FOR THOUGHT:as we the public watch all of or part or just sound bites of the 2-25-10 (422 hits)

public dialogue between President Obama and Congress...( this is from the 1-14-05 issue of the World Tribune)

The warning of the early Buddhist also applies to the members of any society.Do the citizens of a republic say,"It is true because the government says so"? Or do they seek the truth of a matter and then judge the actions of the government?

The universal truth of life comes before religions and nations.Blind obedience to authority-whether it is religious or political-not only obscures life's truth but also causes enormous suffferings, as the history of humanity has repeatedly shown us through persecutions and genocides. People are not a means to an end. Each person is responisble for his or her actions..to learn these simple lessons, one must first discover the infinate value in each life and develop the courage to accept personal responisbility-that is, the joyful burden of freedom.

This has drawn my personal interest, because "I" am guilty of having to stop looking at this up coming meeting between my president and those representing my state of California as a battle between might and right of political one up man ship...this is public dialogue is going to be about the future as well as the secutiry of a whole nation of peoples of all races, creeds and skin colors, and not a battle of good vs evil or right vs wrong or Democrats vs Republicans...

thanks for stopping by. (smile)

This is what I find so striking:

"The universal truth of life comes before religions and nations."

That means there is such a thing as a Universal Truth that powers all life. Different traditions have different names for the Supreme Authority of the Universe. I know it as God.

Then:

"Blind obedience to authority-whether it is religious or political-not only obscures life's truth but also causes enormous suffferings, as the history of humanity has repeatedly shown us through persecutions and genocides."

The single most deadly and destructive force in human history, in my opinion, is when one person believes that he or she knows the truth about this Supreme Being and that his way is the only way to find that truth and other ways of finding God are erroneous, invalid or wrong and need to be stamped out by violence if necessary.

This attitude has brought the world nothing but misery. It certainly hasn't brought anyone any closer to God who is LOVE, PEACE AND JUSTICE.

That is why the only solution, for the sake of our survival, is tolerance, understanding and mutual respect.

Great post, Irma!!!

"I" wrote this from a N.D. Buddhist twice weekly publication paper...but, as my Buddhist practice is based more on the tangable (than the emotional ) opened minded method of bring peace and happines... while alive "I" do believe this to be more related to education than judgment of the real world which I live...

Rich, I agree with you almost 100%...and I only say almost, because of the word EDUCATION or its lack there of is not there...for example, when the shock leaves the face of the one "I" have just told that "I" have been a N.D. Buddhist for 22 years, I will automatically say, "NO, Buddha is not a God and yes I am not a Black person who has gone of the resevation so to speak that Blacks can be Buddhist(smile)

Actually my brother Rich, when we in my practice refer to the Universal truth we actually mean all things must be in balance for anything to work...For example, to have a now, we have to have had a past, correct? The human brain is always trying to find answers, which the balance for this is there has to be a question...and, so on and so on and the best way to prevent this is to limit your brain powers to blind obedience to someone else's ability/ ego's needs to do your thinking for you...

another exammple from this message in this has this in it...
"It's true because the Buddha says so"?..."The Buddha says so because it's true"? buddhism sys the second one...but
a person who is using 'blind obedience' will reject the whole thing with prejudice because they have been limited to the limitless powers of observation of an OPEN MIND (the good in another religion not theirs as legal, ect.)and you a Christian and me N.D. Buddhist would not be in this educational dialogue,(or even friends) we would be in a WAR OF WORDS.(smile)

Rich, there is something "I" keep bringing up about what "I" have found in all of the different religions I have studied...each and everyone of them some how has the answer of what happens after DEATH...I have always personally believed that We need some way to explain the purpose or rational of life, death and why does all of it exist and if it is like thisway on any other planets as we have moved on from heaven being up there in the sky where man has gone to what I believed heaven was as a child(along with the man in the moon) and came back from "UP there alive and albe to talk about this experience...SCIENCE VS RELIGION IS A GOOD THING FOR THE NATURAL WORKINGS OF THE MINE'S SEEKING UNIVERsal TRUTH (or the unknown)(smile)

OH, and another form of blind obedience is "I" find it is almost impossiabe to get sone to believe me as telilng them the truth when "I" say i believe in Christ which I do...balance of this is I would be an idiot to believe that there is no such thing as Christianity which gets its name and its very existance for Christ...but, as far as any thing representing perfection in balance I call Mother Nature and the human mind's workings that is still unknown to mankind yet...I love this seeking abiliity and, being my own person without fear of any person, place, thing or even a GOD, because this is so much a 'God' like purpose to be able to use your own actions to bring peace and happen and love and understanding as you say, to all.(smile)

again thanks Richard for your input
