YOUTH IS THAT WE SEE NO VALUE OR ACTUAL FUTURE PRODUCTIVENESS IN ANY OF THEM AS THE WHITE PEOPLE SEE IN THEIR YOUTH...IF YOU WONDER WHAT IT IS I MEAN BY THIS, PLEASE SEE THE"N B C DATELINE" PROGRAM THAT IS ON RIGHT NOW ON The NBC NETWORK...4-9-10...This could be the savior needed to help our youth as we only tend to put them down as we tend to do at least twice a day on these sites....any thing is worth a try when there is zero hope. I totally agree with you.. We had a discussion in my African American History class and I was telling my Professor that it is so important that (I teach my son's about our past) because what we are taught from our History books, is not a complete story. I had my grandparents to tell me my oral history, now that my grandparents have passed on, it is now my responsibility to pass the verbal history, and also to power them up so that they will posses a passion to learn more... to continuously seek wisdom and knowledge. Aspire to bring out their fullest potential..

Good Morning Irma, by my attending a HBCU, I am constantly informed in African - Black American history. I am taking African Americn HIistory.. The Black Experience when I tell you I have been enlightened... My professor takes you down the other side of the road... We just had a debate of Reparations and Is Now The Time?
I am a Biology Major... I took AFA as a light- credit course.. But I found my self submereged into the history. FAMU has become a diverse university ... and most of the young white americans who attend have to me... what better way to learn black history is to attend a historically black university...

Hi Irma... so let the blogging begin... What is your idea?
I get a sense of excitement when Im learning about culture and the African American - Black Experience... And since you are so knoweldgeable in African Studies/Education/History.. I want your take... My son asked me a question.. when he saw the census he asked me how do I categorize my self, of course I classify my self as a black/native american.
My son classify himself as african american. (his grandfather/my father is Cherokee Indian) Our class of people are the only class whom cannot self identify themselves: Past history has shown that we have gone from so many name changes... nego.... colored... black.... african american... we're going back to black... So how do we help our children have pride in a race in which they can truly identify with?

that's ok... I like emotions, I can read it and feel... As a matter of fact, I found a couple of web sites and I was reading slave narratives... If anyone with passion could read and listen to some of the audio from freed slaves, it would make you cry. I was reading documents to... explaining how slaves were shipped over during the trans atlantic period, with such details that it does get to me... I have to take small bites at a time... because it's so hard for me to comprehend... to think of such in humanity.
And our black men are still suffering... That's why I have such an interest in our youth... I have young men...
Explain to me more... if we refuse to not break our ties with the mother land...
When my Aunt was alive she was a follower of Elijan Muhammad and then with Malcolm X. I wasn't born, but my mother told me how she would follow my Aunt to Harlem and watch all of the different ministers on every corner preach to be people walking by.... I asked her what her take was... She said it was comforting and when Malcolm X talked, you had his full attention because he was so phine.... lol
you say... YES WE CAN... i say Yes We Will.... Because our youth comining up are so much smarter and they are getting it so much earlier and quickly..

Irma... Im going on line later this evening and see what classes are offered (Ethnic Studies).... You know what... I like doing that on job applications... I'll write other or leave it blank... But yes, on my census form we wrote in our race... My friend.. put all of these bogus names like: Jim Crow, Uncle Town, Lawn Jockey... as his household members and circled NEGRO... He's a very very proud man...

CYNTHIA, if I were your son "I" would put Native-American...we got together in my age circle and just crossed out the word Negro on the census to send a message...we hope. lol
"I" get such pleasure in putting "OTHER" on any official froms asking of my first language and I write in Ebonics, which is true and learning about my true history makes me so proud to do this. (smile)

Cynthia, my favorite part of our truth about our being black in America was when I learned that we now have something called a government funded department in our education system called by its generic name ETHNIC STUDY IN ALL OF OUR COLLEGES AND NOT JUST BLACK HISTORY WEEK ABOUT US BEING SLAVES...
AND, HOW ALL OF THIS CAME INTO BEING BECAUSE PRESIDENT L.B. J. HAD OUR GOVERNMENT DO A STUDY THAT ENDED UP GETING THE COLLEGE SOCIAL CLASS PROFESSOR SENT TO THE SENATE AS A REWARD UNTIL HER RETIRED AND HILLARY CLINTON TOOK HIS PLACE IN TEH N.Y. SENATE...
THIS STUDY PROVED TAHT ALL OF THE PROBLEMS WITH OUR BLACK MALES WAS CAUSED BECAUSE THEY WERE RAISED BY A SINGLE BLACK MOTHER...OUR BLACK THINK TANK JOINED FORCES WITH THE BLACK PANTHER'S FOUNDER AND CO-FOUNDER TO FORCE A CORRECTION OF THIS ATTACK ON OUR MATRICAL CULTURE...SOME ENDED ON TEHFBI PUBLIC ENEMY#1 BUT WE DID GET OUR BIA TAUGHT NOW FROM OUR AFRICAN-AMERICAN POINT OF VIEW AND NOT THE EUROPEN POINT OF VIEW...AND SINCE THEN OUR FEDERAL HAS BEEN FORCED TO RELEASE ALL OF OUR VITAL HISTORY THAT THEY HAD HIDDEN AND IN TEH HAND WRITTING OF OUR BLACK SLAVES...SO IF WE DON'T GET ON THE BANDWAGON AND STOP OURSELVES FROM DISRESPECTING OUR TURE HISTORY ESPECIALL THE OUT AND OUT RESPECT OF OUR FEMALES AND OUR ELDERS WE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO UNIT...AND GET MORE BLACK PRESIDENTS AND FEMALE BLACK SENATORS AND ON OUR COURTS WHERE IT COUNTS... My only take on this is not from any religious leaders , but from the pride taht they try to teach is about we should be peoples of our history as we come from a mother land taht had city states centurys before America was even though by the civilized, christians...and we wer deemed as were the Native-Americans as savages because we refused not to try and portect mother earth...now taht we have beeen lead to believe that this is the Chiritian and civilized thing to do protect the earth because it now comes out of the mouths of Al Gore, what, how many centurys after we were enslaved for doing this very thing...
AGAIN, I WILL REPEAT IF OUR YOUTH KNEW ABOUT OUR TRUE HISTORY THEY WOULD BE TOO PROUD TO BE ON THIS SELF DISTRUCT MISSION WHE HAVE BEEN BEOMONING AT THE RATE OUR HISTORY IS TAUGHT OUT OF US. example,
WE ARE AN ORAL CULTURE AND WE KNEW ABOUT THESE RECORDS BUT WE STILL HATE THE PANTHERS BECAUSE WE STILL BELIEVE THEY WEE CRIMINALS AND THE ROSA PARKS WAS TIRED AND WAS ARRESTED FOR NOT GIVING UP HER SEAT ON THAT BUS AHTER THAN US KNOWING BECAUSE THEY HAD BANNED HER FOR NOT GIVING UP HER SEAT TO A WHITE MAN, WOMAN OR CHILD EVER THE ARREST WAS THE LAST THING FOR THEM TO HAVE DONE, BECAUSE SHE PROVIDED THE CASE THAT HAD BEEN NEEDED TO GET BEFORE THE SUPREME COURT SICNE THEYKILLED EMMIT TILL...(smile)...we still need more power but again those students taht propelled our now having a black president is because all of the minority groups in America have had a chance to learn their true contribution to this country...and why we nnow have the teaparty trying to get us back to before all of this...

Cynthia, I was 48 when I went to college, and did my two children get a kick out of teasing me about see mom we can not monitor your report card as you did ours. (smile)
I was just always amazed at how being raised in the deep south how much of Africa remained in our every day behaviors. And just how strong and strong willed the Black female is as we carry the whole of our race on our shoulders and why this is. (smile)

Do they have any African-american study departments at the colleges where you are or you community colleges have an of them.As a major in African and African-American study, I learned a lot expecially why we do a lot of the things that we do and have not the slightest tat we brought a lot of this from Africa those hundred years ago...we are relearning a lot that has been lost over these years.
This is why I have begun to look at slavery as something we survived!!!It takes a lot of the sting out of it, bukt we have survived and now we will be able to get to relearn our proud history and I promise it is a proud history...We are proud peoples that the powers tah be are still determine to put an end to all of this...NO,NO,NO...We shall over come this drugs and every other thing you have tired and we will still keep on fighting for our peice of this country that we have earned...
I believe one of the most important books for us to start off with is the make up of our family structure. so this is why I asked you about your colleges. (smile)
Gaddy does a Black in History blog each day...you can learn a lot on his blog...he als has a history site, I am sure you would enjoy. Mozell works a lot with our youth and so does emmanuel...MIISRAEL is our site Angle...clark we turn to for politics when we get stuck..rRch does a lot of books on Black slave writers...you will get to know us...Me I am the site MOM as the oldest here...I wear this honor proudly...we are good people and you will get to know us all...(smile)
What history calss were you taking Cynthia...I have been out of school for many, many years...I do take one or two classes every now and then...

when the youths of these two parent homes were caught and charged with bulgries of the homes of the rich and famous...the attorneys of theirs offered as their defense that these were good youths and they if given a chance would become a positive in their community!
NOw the point is that these children should not be put under the same umbrella of the teens that do not come under homes of the two parent well off familys becuse they can offer our own community out look on lur youth as proofs that these youths can not be serious criminals...LOOK AT THE BACK GROUNDS, ECT
