KYO...Nam, is devotion of our lives to this law through our faith, practice and study, we will awaken the life condition of Buddha, or enlightenment, inside of oursleves...Myoho is the name given to the mystic nature of life and ho, is to its manifastations (Myo can mean life and ho can mean death)...Renge is literally, the Lotus flower which seeds and blooms at the same time. This represents the simaltaneity of 'cause' and 'effect'...or as one does an act there is going to be a reaction already on the way...Kyo means 'sound' or 'teaching'....the spoken word, which is heard.

Thanks for giving information on your Buddist Prayer Irma. I first heard when I visited a friend who practices Buddism. She demonstrated the prayer to me, even though "I didn't participate in the prayer chanting" I was welcomed in her home because she wanted me to see how she transposed her prayer service (Chanting). It was remarkable to watch her with others as they explained to me their procedure....it was quite an experience for me. Thanks for sharing.

Dear Irma: Your way is a wise and wonderful way. Clearly, you have found that it helps you get through the day and makes you a better person. The fruits of your spiritual practice and faith--you do not call it a religion and so I respect that--is that it makes you a happier, more caring and compassionate and righteous person who strives for a just world. What possibly could be more helpful to humanity than that? Thanks for sharing!!!

In my Buddhist practice (religion) each of us possesses the potential for a winning life. Within us is the ability to live with courage,to have fulfilling relationships, to enjoy good health and prosperity, to Feel and show true compassion for others, and the power to face and surmount our deepest problems...(smile) THIS TEACHINGS IS ABOUT THE INDIVIDUAL IN THE HERE AND THE NOW...

Rich, here is a quote of Sir Richard Francis Burton's that Okpara placed on one of Jamal's blogs...now this is one of the things that all with "opened minds" have, "I" believe...and, represents what is so missing in EDUCATION or unity... "CONQURE THYSELF, TILL THOU HAS DONE THIS, THOU ART BUT A SLAVE, FOR IT IS ALMOST AS WELL TO BE SUBJECTED TO ANOTHER'S APPITITE AS TO THINE OWN". (SMILE) Now this is 'critical thinking'. lol (smile)... This to me represents my practice when it teaches that Happiness does not mean that we don't have problems. True happiness lies in having the strength to bear any hardship and over come it...namely looking at oneself openly and honestly...AND, BEING WILLING TO LEARN FROM OTHERS WHO ARE " DIFFERENT ...as respect worthy... "EDUCATE!!!EDUCATE!!!EDUCATE!!!!(S-M-I-L-E)

But, even more important Rich about this practice is...this practice is what I have been all of my life...but, out of fear of going to hell I limited my need to KNOW, Do, Accomplish so many things... even to loving and respecting my own self. (smile) NOW I WILL SHUT UP.lol...lov you all...

My thanks to you Rich for stoping by. Yes, I do greet each day with the desire to make it better than the day before ...and one more reasons, I resist saying religion is on the matter of WAR. We N.D. Buddhist find not excuse nor reason to support man's killing their fellow man , P-E-R-I-O-D!!!!! There is not right or wrong...good or bad, but both, because all things must be in BALANCE therefore we have both as necessary in human behavior, for human survival... EDUCATE!!! EDUCATE!!!EDUCATE!!! Thank you MIISRAEL, chanting is a form of unity as there is always someone some where chanting Nam- myoho- renge-kyo on this planet..also that prayer you heard at this meeting is actually a conversation... this coversation about how the original Buddha talks about how we are all equal to him, because we all have Buddha Nature or the energy to do right or to do wrong, and even moe important we have within us the power to be happy by over coming obsticles that are preventing us from learning how to be happy and secure at all times. (smile) THE CHOICE IS OURS TO DO OR NOT TO DO...BUT, WE MUST NEVER PUT THE BLAME ON SOMEONE, SOME THING ELSE...BEING RESPONSIABLE FOR OUR OWN ACTIONS IS THE PINK ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM. lol (smile)

I went to a N.D. Buddhist lecture in Sacramento tonight...here are some of my notes I took...WHEN I SAY 'WE' I WILL BE rERERING TO US WHO PRACTICE N.D.B... We must be very careful when we are talking about or using the word RELIGION. We would be better off saying that we practice a Humanistic way of living a movement of peace, culture and education...Our lives should be living proof that our prayers have been answered...that all people have Buddha Nature which makes us all Equal in being respect worthy...that we are all trying to find a way out of 4 fundemental sufferings. 1. birth, 2. old age. 3. sickness 4. death. Cynthia, like any thing else, each Buddhist practice has a different ritual/ worship practice. example, the ritual(worship) in a Catholic and a Baptist church is different although the principle belief is the same... In my practice we have an alter..on that alter is an insence burner which represents the aIR...two candles represent the sun and the moon...two ever green plants which represents life...(there is more but it is not what you seek rith now with the question you asked...We have one bell that is rung to stard the prayeer to end the prayer and during the prayer is tells when one part of it will change, ect (again too detailed for the question-smile) Chanting is not what you most likely think it is, because chanting is many different things, example, making teh sign of the cross can be the same as chanting...we say Nam-myohyo-renge-kyo, 3 times in a row in place of making the sign of the cross and for many different reasons, if we see a car accident or someting scares us, ect...you can chant for one second of for three hours or for days if you choose... BUT, ONE THING YOU MUST TRY TO DO AND THAT IS TO TRY AND MAKE ALL BUDDHISM THE SAME. O.K? (samile) # Cynthia, please pay close attentio to my next comment. O.K. it may help you more...

AN ANCIENT TRADITION...The origans of the SGI-USA WORLD view cqn be trAced to the teachings of te Buddha Shakyamuni, wHO lived some 2,500 years ago in what is modern-day Nepal. Born Gautama Siddharta, he abandoned his sheltered princely life and sought instead to understand the inexcapable sufferings of every human being-birth, aging, sickness, and death-and the means by which these sufferings could be over come. THE REALITIES OF DAILY LIFE PROVIDES BOTH MOTIVVATION AND OPPORRTUNITY FOR SPIRITUAL TRANSRORMATION.

Buddhism is a way of lofe..on the most fundamental level...makes no distinction between the individual human being and the environment in which that person lives. like a fish in water, the two are not only inseparable, but each serves as a catlyst for the other... Thus, to Buddhist, self-improvement and enhancement of our circumstances go hand in hand. THE WORD BUDDHA IS TOO OFTEN CONJURED UP AS A SPECIFIC PERSON, BUT BUDDHA ALSO MEANS "THE HIGHEST STATE OF LIFE EACH OF US CAN ACHIEVE" ...one one can take all responsibility off of one's own self and tHE other is only on that individual...
